Falcons Register 64-47 Victory Over Mountaineers
Marazzi and Thomson net 16 points each in non-conference victory
Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's basketball team defeated the Mountaineers of Southern Vermont, 64-47 this afternoon in non-conference action from the Parkinson Gymnasium.

How It Happened
1st quarter
Fitchburg State raced out to a 16-0 advantage as junior Emma Thomson (York, Maine) and sophomore Payton Holmes (Carver, Mass.) knocked down one three pointer each before Southern Vermont cut the lead to 18-6 on three balls by freshman Katie Godon (Carmel, Calif.) and junior Sarah Poirier (Ferrisburgh, Vt.).
2nd quarter
The Falcons extended their margin 31-7 as junior Emily Beauvais (Haverhill, Mass.) connected on a layup, but Mountaineers responded with a bucket from freshman Julia Vega (Watsonville, Calif.) and two free-throws by newcomer Ahmyria Simmons (Silver Springs, Md.) to make the score 35-15 going into halftime.
3rd quarter
Following the intermission, Fitchburg State upped its lead (40-15) on a bucket from senior Kerry Brodbeck (Boston, Mass.) and another three-pointer from Thomson before Southern Vermont answered with a three ball of their own as Goden buried one from the right elbow to cut the lead to 44-20. The Falcons then went on a 6-2 run to close the frame with junior Alicia Ruth (Plaistow, N.H.) connecting on a pair of layups for the 53-26 edge.
4th quarter
The Mountaineers opened the final frame with a pair of three-pointers from newcomer Julia Ryan (Clifton Park, N.Y.) but the Green and Gold secured the win as Thomson and junior Catherine Coppinger (Dorchester, Mass.) hit layups, resulting in the 64-47 final.
