Falcons Earn 59-49 Triumph Over Colonels

Milton, Mass. – The Fitchburg State Women's Basketball defeated the Colonels of Curry College, 59-49 this evening in non-conference action from the Katz Gymnasium.

How It Happened

1st quarter

Curry grabbed a 6-3 edge early in the contest on a three-pointer from Kathryn Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) before Fitchburg State cut the deficit to 7-6 as senior Angelina Marazzi (Manchester, N.H.) connected on a layup. The Falcons broke an 11-11 tie late in the frame on when senior Emma Thomson (York, Maine) buried back-to-back three balls for the 17-11 lead.

2nd quarter

The Colonels chipped the lead to 18-15 on layups from Dunn and Katie Smith (Hull, Mass.), but the Green and Gold upped their advantage (30-15), going on a 15-0 run, led by senior Catherine Coppinger (Boston, Mass.) and junior Mishelle Logie (Attleboro, Mass.) with five points each over the stretch. Fitchbug State would take a 37-21 margin into the locker room as Logie netted an and one with 16 seconds left in the stanza.

3rd quarter

Following the intermission, Fitchburg State upped its lead (41-21) on buckets from sophomore Jadelen Harold (Nantucket, Mass.) and Logie before Curry answered back, cutting the lead to 42-33 as Kristyanna Remillard (Abington, Mass.) hit a pair from the charity stripe.

 4th quarter

Both teams traded bucket to open the final frame with Dunn hitting the bucket for Curry, while Harold registered Fitchburg State's basket to make the score 47-37. The Falcons would secure the victory however with Marazzi netting a layup, resulting in the 59-49.
