Falcons Fall to Rams in Non-Conference Play

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's basketball team dropped a 63-30 decision to the Rams of Suffolk University in non-conference action this evening at the Parkinson Gymnasium.

How It Happened

Suffolk jumped out to an early 11-2 margin on a pair of buckets from junior guard Gabriella DeComo (Portsmouth, RI) and trey by senior Jenni-Rose DiCecco (Falmouth, Mass.). Sophomore Jadelen Harold (Nantucket, Mass.) scored an offensive rebound and a put back for the Green and Gold to cut the deficit to 22-4 at the end of one frame.

In the second frame, Fitchburg State senior Angelina Marazzi (Manchester, NH) scored five straight points and freshman Lindsay McDonald (Stoughton, Mass.) added a pair from the charity stripe to trail 28-11 at the midway point. The Rams closed out the quarter with a 6-1 run capped by a layin from sophomore Natalie Fraioli (Sutton, Mass.) to lead (34-12) at intermission.

Suffolk extended their lead (38-12) when DiCecco connected for her 1,000th career point with 6:23 to play in the third. The Falcons countered with a three-point play from junior Payton Holmes (Carver, Mass.) to trail 48-20 after 30 minutes.

Senior Emma Thomson (York, Maine) opened the final period for the Falcons with a trey sending the Falcons on an 8-3 run. The Rams finished with a 7-0 to secure the 63-30 victory.

Inside the Numbers

  • Fitchburg State shot 8-for-58 (13.8%) from the field and 7.7% (2-of-26) from three point range.
  • Suffolk went 26-of-72 (36.1%) overall, including (7-for-29) 24.1% from beyond the arc.
  • DiCecco notched her 1,000th point early in the third quarter for the Rams
  • The Falcons were paced by McDonald who had nine points and 10 rebounds.  Senior Catherine Coppinger (Boston, Mass.) had a game-high 12 caroms.
  • For the Rams, DiCecco led the way with game-best 22 points and 7 boards, while DeComo chipped in with 12 points.
