Fitchburg, Mass.  – The Fitchburg State Women's Basketball team dropped an 83-44 decision to the visiting Valiants of Manhattanville College in non-conference action at the Parkinson Gymnasium on Tuesday night.

How It Happened

1st Quarter

Senior Lovashia Rosario (Worcester, Mass.) connected from beyond the arc for the Falcons to knot the game at 6-6 early in the frame.  The Valiants took a five point advantage (13-8) with a jumper from Carmen Rosemond (New Haven, Conn.) but the Green and Gold responded with a layup from first year Ephemian Bailey (Maple Grove, Minn.). Fitchburg State closed out the quarter with a trey from Olivia Almeida (Wilmington, Mass.) to trail 21-15.

2nd Quarter

The Crimson and Black opened with seven straight points, including five from Faith Johnson-Desilva (Riverhead, NY) to extend the second quarter lead to 28-15. Fitchburg State countered with a bucket from junior Lindsay McDonald (Stoughton, Mass.) and a pair from Bailey but trailed 46-21 at the half.

3rd Quarter

First year Morgan Genness (Belgrade, Maine) tossed in a jumper to cut the deficit to 53-23 with eight minutes remaining. However the visitors answered with an 18-2 run to push the lead to 70-25.

4th Quarter

In the fourth quarter the Falcons started with a deep ball from Rosario and a pair from the charity strip from Bailey. The Valiants continued to build on its lead as Johnson-Desilva completed a three point play to make the score 79-35.  Fitchburg State answered back on a layup from Jadelen Harold (Nantucket, Mass.) and a three-pointer from Genness, resulting in the 83-44 final.

Inside the Numbers

  • Falcons were led by Genness and Almeida each with a team-best 8 points. Hart connected for 4 points with 3 assists, two steals and a team-high 6 rebounds off the bench.
  • Manhattanville shot 27-of-66 (40.9%) from the field and (4-for-11) 36.4% from three point range
  • Fitchburg State finished 14-for-47 (29.8%) overall and (5-for-15) 33.3% for beyond the arc
