Women's Basketball Falls Short to MCLA in Conference Opener

NORTH ADAMS, MA: Fitchburg State women's basketball fell to the Trailblazers of MCLA in their MASCAC opener.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 1/3/24

- Score: MCLA 73, Fitchburg 62

- Records: MCLA (4-9, 1-0 MASCAC), Fitchburg (3-9, 0-1 MASCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  After the Falcons took a one-point lead into the second quarter, MCLA found their stride. They dropped 22 points to Fitchburg's 10 in the second quarter. Hailey Peabody took over the game for the Trailblazers, racking up an impressive 30 points.

- The Falcons had a tight second half and even outscored the hosting squad 26-25 in the fourth quarter, but the damage was already done after the second. Riley Harlow (Hanson, MA) did everything she could with another 20-point performance for the Falcons.

- Also contributing big numbers for the Trailblazers were Zaylee Ramos and Kristie Zator. Ramos had 16 points in this one with seven rebounds. Zator had more rebounds than points in her double-double effort, with 13 rebounds and 12 points.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Shooting: MCLA hit 52% of their shots, 50% from 3-point, and 60.9% from the line. Fitchburg shot well from the floor at 43% and struggled from behind the 3-point line at 13% and 47.4% from the line.

-  Rebounds: MCLA 35, Fitchburg 34

-  Assists: MCLA 19, Fitchburg 13
