Finamore paces Falcons with a team-high three scores

FITCHBURG, Mass. (April 16, 2009) - Freshman Kelly Finamore (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) led the Fitchburg State with a team-high three goals as UMass Dartmouth edged the Falcons, 10-9 in non-conference action this evening. 



Sophomore Connie Perry registered a
career-high 17 saves in net for the Falcons.

Fitchburg State junior Emily Swan (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) registered a team-high four points in the contest, connecting for one goal and three assists, while rookie Amanda Burns (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) added two scores to the mix. Sophomore Kaitlyn Kelley (Pepperell, Mass./North Middlesex) was also strong for the Falcons, totaling three points on two goals and one helper.

UMass Dartmouth used a balanced offensive attack as seven players registered goals to lead the Corsairs to their fifth straight victory. Sophomore Samantha Wonson (Lowell, Mass./Lowell), freshman Allison O'Rourke (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) and junior Gillian Carey (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) each tallied two goals in the game, while sophomore Rachel Carlucci (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) added one goal and one assist.

Fitchburg State opened the contest with an early 7-4 advantage after one half of play, using a 3-0 run over the final 3:02 of the half. Kelley led the Falcons first half scoring with two goals scored, while Swan recorded one goal and three assists. O'Rourke notched two scores in the frame for the Corsairs.

In the second half, UMass Dartmouth used a 21-6 advantage in shots to rally back from a three goal deficit and clinch its fifth victory of the season. Wonson led the Corsair comeback with two goals in the half, while junior Andrea Russo (Tyngsboro, Mass./Tyngsboro) drained the game-winning goal with 5:23 remaining in regulation.

UMass Dartmouth held a slim 33-30 advantage in shots for the contest, while posting a 25-22 lead in groundball pickups. Sophomore Connie Perry (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) was solid between the pipes for Fitchburg State, picking up a career-high 17 saves in net, while junior Liz Miller (Littleton, Mass./Westford Academy) earned the victory with ten stops for the Corsairs.

Fitchburg State (4-7, 1-3 NEWLA) will be in action again on Saturday as it travels to Becker College at 1 p.m. UMass Dartmouth (5-6, 2-1 LEC)  will travel to Keene State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
