FITCHBURG, Mass. (April 11, 2013) – The Fitchburg State women's lacrosse team was in action Tuesday night as it hosted the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth in a non-league contest. The Corsairs prevailed, posting a 13-8 victory on the road at Elliot Field.

Midfielder Taylor Corsano (Bourne, Mass.) led the way for the Corsairs offense, totaling a game-high seven points  with six goals and one assist, while Colleen Kane (Arlington, Mass.) was also solid with four points on the evening, using three scores and one dish to aid the UMass attack.

Senior Jessica Bartlett (Marlborough, Mass.) and junior Markie Apple (Pittsfield, Mass.) sparked the Fitchburg State offense with three scores apiece, while senior Kristin Dooley (Salem, Mass.) and sophomore Kayla Bridges (Foxboro, Mass.) chipped in with one marker each.

UMass Dartmouth jumped out to a two goal lead at the break (7-5), using 4-0 run to open the game. Corsano amounted for two of the Corsairs first four goals, while Brittney Enos (E. Falmouth, Mass.) and Kane both added tallies. Fitchburg State cut its deficit to only one (6-5) behind goals from Bartlett, Apple and Dooley, but a last minute marker at the 2:20 mark by Enos gave the Corsairs the two score advantage at the half.

In the second half, Fitchburg State again clipped the UMass Dartmouth lead to only one with back-to-back scores from Apple, but a 5-1 rally to close out the contest prove to be the difference maker for the Corsairs. Corsano took charge, netting four goals in the surge, while Enos added a tally at the 18:47 mark.

For the game, Fitchburg State out-shot UMass Dartmouth 31-27 while the Falcons also held a slim margin in groundballs at 24-23. The Falcons also maintained a huge advantage on the draw (15-8), but 23 saves by Corsairs goalie, Angelina Donovan (Medford, Mass.) lifted UMass Dartmouth to its sixth victory of the season. Freshman Elizabeth Darrigo (Billerica, Mass.) stopped 14 shots for the Falcons.
