Laferriere Nets 100th Career Point in Falcons Triumph over NEC

HENNIKER, N.H. – Fitchburg State women's lacrosse attack Ali Laferriere netted five goals and had one assist - while collecting her 100th career point to lead the Falcons past the New England College Pilgrims, 15-8 Monday afternoon in a non-conference tilt.

With the win the Falcons improve to 6-1 on the season, while the loss drops the Pilgrims to 1-8 overall.

New England College jumped out the early 3-0 lead as Kasondra Moniz, Allison Granata and Gabriella Bigos each netted a goal in the opening six minutes of play.  Fitchburg State responded as Andrea Comeau converted on a free-position opportunity, followed by four additional Falcon goals, giving them the 5-3 lead with 11 minutes remaining in the half.

NEC would get a goal by Michelle Kennedy at the 10:55 mark cutting the lead to 5-4 but yet again Fitchburg State had an answer as the Falcons closed out the half with four straight goals and headed into halftime up 9-4.

The Pilgrims opened the second half on fire as they out-scored the Falcons 4-1 over the opening 11 minutes slicing the lead to just 11-8.  That is as close as NEC got as the Fitchburg State defense held NEC scoreless over the remaining 19:12 to play and the offense tacked on five unanswered goals securing the 15-8 victory.

In addition to Laferriere, Fitchburg State was led by Kayla Panek, who netted three goals and dished out an assist, while Comeau finished with three goals on the afternoon.

NEC's Allison Granata led the way for the Pilgrims recording three goals and an assist to go along with four caused turnovers. NEC's Gabriella Bigos finished with a goal, two assists and 10 draw controls, while Jacquelyn Lane netted a goal and had an assist.

Fitchburg State finished the game out shooting NEC 37-17 and the Falcons held the slight 25-22 advantage in ground balls.

Picking up the win in net for the Green & Gold was Elizabeth Darrigo who totaled seven saves on the evening. In net for NEC was Mackenzie Meegan who recorded 13 saves for the Pilgrims.

Fitchburg State will hit the field again on Thursday, April 2 when they travel to take on non-conference opponent Wentworth Institute of Technology. NEC returns to action on Wednesday, April 1 when they travel to take on conference opponent Green Mountain College.
