Women’s Lacrosse Names Six To MASCAC All-Conference Teams

Comeau, Crutchfield, Laferriere and Long earn first team honors; Darrigo and Lutz named to second team

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's lacrosse team named six players to the 2016 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Lacrosse All-Conference teams as announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.

Junior Andrea Comeau, classmate Ali Laferriere and sophomores Lia Crutchfield and Carrie Long were all selected to the MASCAC All-Conference first team, while senior Liz Darrigo and sophomore Jaimee Lutz collected MASCAC All-Conference second team accolades.

Laferriere paved the way for the Falcons this season, totaling a team-leading 74 points on 51 markers and 23 helpers to go along with a 28 draw controls, 28 groundball and nine caused turnovers to collect her third straight All-Conference accolade.

Comeau collects her second all-conference nomination after registering a strong junior campaign. Comeau ranks second on the team in scoring with 44 points on a 37 goals and seven assists as well as 22 groundballs, 16 draw controls and 11 caused turnovers.

Long earns her first all-conference selection, posting 11 points on ten scores and one helper with a team-best 87 draw controls, 71 ground balls and a single season Falcons record 44 caused turnovers, while Crutchfield earns her second all-conference honor after collecting six points on six goals as well as 56 ground balls, 24 draw controls and 17 caused tunovers.

Lutz notches her first all-conference honor, ranking fourth on the squad with 33 points on 25 tallies and eight helpers to go along with 54 ground balls, 31 draw controls and 29 caused turnovers, while Darrigo rounds out the Falcons all-conference selections with her second MASCAC all-conference nomination, posting a goals against average of 7.82 and a save percentage of 54.7 as well as 170 saves.

The third-seeded Falcons will be back in action on Thursday as they travel to the second-seeded Bears of Bridgewater State University for semifinal round action of the 2016 MASCAC Women's Lacrosse tournament for a contest starting at 6 p.m.
