Bridgewater State Doubles Up Fitchburg State, 12-6

Laferriere and Long combine for three goals and ten draw controls in MASCAC setback

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's lacrosse team was in action this afternoon, dropping a tough 12-6 decision to the Bears of Bridgewater State in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Swenson Field.

The Bears improve to 9-6 on the season and 5-0 in the MASCAC, while the Falcons fall to 8-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

Fitchburg State was paced by senior attacker Ali Laferriere, who netted a team-best two scores as well as six draw controls and two caused turnovers, while junior Carrie Long added one score, three ground balls, four draw controls and three caused turnovers for the Green and Gold.

For Bridgewater State, sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Ettridge led the way with a game-leading five markers, while senior Melissa Renauld chipped in with three points on two goals and an assist as well as two ground balls and one draw control.

Bridgewater State scored seven of the first eight goals of the contest and led 7-2 at the break. Five different Bears scored over the opening 30 minutes with Ettridge leading the way with three first-half tallies, while Laferriere and senior Andrea Comeau found the back of the net for the Falcons.

Following intermission, Fitchburg State cut the deficit to 10-5 as Laferriere struck for her second tally on the afternoon before C.Long buried her 22nd score on the season with just over nine minutes left in the contest.

With the score 11-5, Falcons midfielder Nicole Lee connected on her fourth goal of the 2017 campaign, but Bridgewater State tacked on an insurance goal late in the frame as Etheridge notched her fifth and final goal of the game, resulting in the 12-6 final.

Throughout the contest, Bridgewater State held a 16-13 margin in shots, while also holding a slim 13-10 advantage in ground balls. In net, sophomore Marguerite Belcher stopped four shots for the Falcons in the complete game effort, while senior Allie Forman stopped seven shots for the Bears in 60 minutes of work.

The MASCAC schedule continues for both teams on Wednesday night at seven. The Bears travel to Salem State University, while the Falcons head to Worcester State University.
