Falcons Soar Past Fighting Scots, 16-5

Napolitano nets game-best nine points in non-conference victory 

Port Charlotte, Fla. – The Fitchburg State University women's lacrosse team defeated the Fighting Scots of Gordon College, 16-5 in the Falcons second game of their annual spring trip to Florida this morning at Ross Park.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State jumped out to an early 4-0 lead on two goals from sophomore Rebecca Fisher (Dracut, Mass.), while classmate Sarah Napolitano (Peabody, Mass.) and senor Jaimee Lutz (Foxboro, Mass.) added one score each.

Gordon cut the deficit to 8-3 as juniors Olivia McCarrick (Glen Burnie, Md.) and Hannah Bourk (Barrington, R.I.) and freshman Katelyn Dyer (Plainfield, N.J.) found the back of the net, but the Falcons capped the first half scoring on markers by Napolitano and sophomore Tracy Long (Georgetown, Mass.) for the 10-4 advantage going into the break.

Following the intermission, the Green and Gold extended its margin (15-4) on scores by senior Carrie Long (Foxboro, Mass,), junior Sarah Mallahan (Dracut, Mass.), Napolitano, junior Anna Gagnon-Burch (Putney, Vt.) and T. Long, en-route a 16-5 final.

Inside the Numbers,

First ever meeting between the two schools on the lacrosse field.

Napolitano led the way for the Fitchburg State with a career best nine points on five goals and four helpers to go along with three ground balls and one draw control, while T. Long added five points on four markers and one assist.

In between the pipes, junior Marguerite Belcher (Quincy, Mass.) finished with five saves, en-route to earning her third win on the season in the complete game effort for the Falcons.
