Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's lacrosse team fell 17-8 to Eastern Connecticut State University in non-conference action on Tuesday evening at Elliot Field.

How It Happened
After Eastern took and early 3-0 lead, senior Carrie Long (Foxboro, Mass.) netted her 27th goal of the season at the 21:21 mark. The Warriors added three more scores including Tristian Kijack's (Windsor, Conn) second of the game to push the lead to 6-1. C. Long tipped the twine at 16:48 and teammate Anna Gagnon-Burch (Putney, Vt.) added her 11th of the season two minutes later to cut the deficit to 6-3. However, Eastern closed out the half with a 5-0 run to take an 11-3 advantage into the intermission.
Sophomore Alyssa Powers (Ellington, Conn.) opened the second half with a natural hat trick to run the score to 14-3. The Falcons added second half goals from Tracy Long (Georgetown, Mass.), Madison Alves (Braintree, Mass.), C. Long, Jaimee Lutz (Foxboro, Mass.) and Gagnon-Burch in the 17-8 final.
Inside the Numbers
Eastern was led by senior Katie Burke (South Windsor, Conn.) with 5 points on two goals and three assists, while sophomore Alyssa Powers (Ellington, Conn.) tallied four goals.
Carrie Long had a team-high three goals for the Falcons.
Junior goalkeeper Jessica Purick (Riverhead, NY) had eight saves in 50:56 of play for the win, freshman Olivia Donahue (Avon, Conn.) made four stops in relief.
Junior Marguerite Belcher (Quincy, Mass.) posted 17 saves in the loss for the hosts.
Eastern held the advantage in draw controls (15-12), and Fitchburg State had more ground balls (30-29)
Third meeting between the two schools in lacrosse with the Falcons 0-3 all-time when taking on the Warriors.
Eastern Connecticut State has won the first two matchups with Fitchburg State, including a 13-2 decision last season at the Mansfield Complex. Senior Carrie Long led the way for the Green and Gold with one draw control, six groundballs and three caused turnovers.

The Falcons are off until Friday when they travel to Framingham State for a 5:30 pm MASCAC match-up with the Rams. Eastern will host Plymouth State on Saturday for a 12:00pm start.
