Miele nets two goals in non-conference setback

Port Charlotte, Fla. – The Fitchburg State women's lacrosse team was defeated by the Kangaroos of SUNY Canton, 15-3 this morning in their second day of action at the Spring Fling Games in Port Charlotte, Fla.

How It Happened

SUNY Canton grabbed a 5-0 margin in the opening 16 minutes of play on two goals by freshman Stephanie Thayer (West Henrietta, N.Y.), while junior Molly Denny (Adams, N.Y.), senior MaryClare Bowes (Irondequoit, N.Y.) and sophomore Devin Kelly (Massena, N.Y.) added one score each before Fitchburg State answered with a tally from junior Rebecca Fisher (Dracut, Mass.) to cut the deficit to 5-1.

Following the break, the Kangaroos extended their margin (13-1) as Kelly, Thayer, newcomer Emily Vogt (Hamburg, N.Y.) and sophomore Erin Parks (Watertown, N.Y.) found the back of the net. The Falcons responded though with freshman Julia Miele (South Hadley, Mass.) connecting on back-to-back marker to make the score 13-3, but junior Allison Wakefield (Mastic, N.Y.) secured the win for SUNY Canton, resulting in the 15-3 final.

Falcons return to action on Thursday as they take on the Pioneers of Smith College in their final contest of the Spring Fling Games, starting at 7:00 PM. Pioneer will battle Carroll University on the same day in their final game in Florida at 1:00 PM.
