Women's Lacrosse Soars Past Lyons

Tibbetts collects team leading six points for Green and Gold

South Hadley, MA. – The Fitchburg State Women's Lacrosse team registered a 17-8 victory over the Lyons of Mount Holyoke College this afternoon in non-conference action from the Mount Holyoke Tuft Field.

How It Happened

In the opening quarter, Fitchburg State took a 4-1 advantage to start the contest on goals from sophomore Autumn Tibbetts (Lunenburg, MA), classmate Jessica St. George (Dracut, MA) and juniors Nicole Orlowski (Ellington, CT) and Abaigeal Doheny (Lunenburg, MA). Mount Holyoke trimmed the lead 4-2 as senior Hannah Bisson (South Hadley, MA) before the Falcons pushed the lead to 7-2 as Tibbetts completed the hat trick for the Green and Gold. Fitchburg State upped the margin to 8-2 as Orlowski put the back of the net for her second tally of the afternoon, but the Lyons cut the deficit to 8-4 going into the break with sophomore Emi Bisson (Chester, CT) netting a pair of scores.

Following the intermission, Fitchburg State upped the lead to 13-4 on a trio of markers from St. George and tallies by Doheny and freshman Hannah Azzari (Haverhill, MA) before Mount Holyoke answered with a goal by sophomore Elle Mader (Cincinnati, OH) (13-5). The Falcons capped the scoring with newcomer Breanna White (Peabody, MA) and junior Kendra Peretzman (Randolph, MA) potting goals, resulting in the 17-8 final.

  • This afternoon's contest marked the third meeting between Fitchburg State and Mount Holyoke in the sport of women's lacrosse with the Falcons 2-1 when taking on the Lyons
  • Tibbetts paced the Falcons with six points on four goal and two assists as well as four groundballs
  • Doheny finished with two goals, two groundballs, nine draw controls and one caused turnover
  • Freshman Caitlin Persson (Worcester, MA) earned her third win on the season for Fitchburg State, stopping nine shots
  • For the Lyons, Emi Bisson registered four goals, three assists, four groundballs, seven draw controls and two caused turnovers
  • Newcomer Syd Baker (Needham, MA) made 13 saves for Mount Holyoke in the setback

 

The Falcons return to action on Monday, March 23rd as they travel to Rhode Island College to take on the Anchorwomen for a non-conference tilt, starting at 1:00PM.
