Falcons break single-game scoring record
with 12 goal outburst;

BROOKLINE, Mass. (September 17, 2008) - The Fitchburg State women's soccer team exploded for a 12-0 victory over Newbury College in non-conference action this afternoon at Pine Manor College. With the 12 goals scored, the Falcons break the program's all-time single-game scoring record.

Fitchburg State's offensive attack was led by junior captain Lauren Wundt (Southwick, Mass./Southwick-Tolland), who registered seven points on three goals and one assist. With her three scores, Wundt moves into sole possession of second place on the all-time scoring list with 28 career goals. The All-Conference standout needs only two more goals to break the all-time record of 29 goals.

Junior Ashley Dutcher (Littleton, Mass./Littleton), and freshman Lindsay Taylor (Blythewood, S.C./Blythewood) aided the Falcons scoring surge with three goals apiece, while sophomore Courtney Kimball (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) notched six points on two goals and two assists. Freshman Erica Graves (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) chipped in with two scores in the contest.

 Fitchburg State scored the only goal it would need just 14:26 into the match as Kimball connected for her first goal of the season off an assist from sophomore Ali Landry (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham). The Falcons then rallied off three consecutive goals by Dutcher (1) and Wundt (2) in a 3:42 span before Taylor closed out the half with her first score of the game.

In the second half, Fitchburg State kept up its scoring prowess immediately as junior captain Meagan Belanger (Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown) connected for her first collegiate goal just 6:15 into the half to give the Falcons a 6-0 lead. Dutcher quickly followed with back-to-back goals before Kimball, Wundt and Taylor (2) added some insurance.

Fitchburg State dominated the offensive front, out-shooting Newbury 38-5 in the contest with a 6-1 advantage in corners. Junior goalkeeper Emily Swan (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) recorded two saves in the win for the Falcons, while classmate Kyla Batchelder (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) and freshman Melanie Berent (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) saw action in net. Freshman Olga Cepeda (Boston, Mass./Madison Park) notched five saves for the Nighthawks.
