Bridgewater State Breezes Past Fitchburg State, 10-0

Fitchburg State falls to Bears in MASCAC opener

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (September 15, 2012) – Sophomore forward Erica Jonasson (Wrentham, Mass./Tri-County Reg.) notched her first career hat trick as Bridgewater State defeated Fitchburg State, 10-0 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer action this afternoon.

Eight different players scored for the host Bears, who improved to 4-2-1(1-0-0 MASCAC) on the season, while Fitchburg State fell to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Bridgewater State grabbed a lead in the eighth minute of play as Jonasson spilt the defense and fired a shot into the upper left corner of the net for 1-0 advantage. The Bears quickly doubled their lead (2-0) roughly four minutes later when Jonasson connected for her second tally of the game at the 11:17 mark. Bridgewater State closed out the half with five more scores to take a 7-0 lead at the break.

In the second half, the Bears sealed their victory with three scores from junior Caley McClendon (Keene, N.H./Keene), junior Olivia Creonte (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) and freshman MaryRose Griffin (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson).

Throughout the match, Bridgewater State out shot Fitchburg State 23-4, while limiting Fitchburg State to just one corner kick. In the net, sophomore Kelsey Ford (Franconia, N.H./Profile School) made three saves in 75 minutes of work for the Falcons, while junior Kerry Condon (Whitman, Mass./Whitman Hanson) was untested in 45 minutes of action for the Bears.

Fitchburg State (1-5, 0-1 MASCAC) will be back in action on Tuesday as it travels to UMass Boston at 3:30 p.m. Bridgewater State (4-2-1, 1-0-0 MASCAC) will travel to Rhode Island College on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
