Curry Defeats Fitchburg State, 2-0

Ford registers eight saves for Falcons

MILTON, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's soccer was in action this evening, dropping a 2-0 decision to Curry College in non-conference women's soccer action at Walter M. Katz Field.

In the opening period, Curry College took the lead midway through the stanza as freshman Julianna Petrucelli gathered a feed from classmate Korinna Tsonis and deposited the ball into the back of the net for her first collegiate goal to make the score 1-0.

The Falcons nearly knotted the score minutes later when sophomore Abbey Norden and senior Kayla Bridges put a pair of shots on target but Colonels goaltender Morgan Stott was able to deflect both shots away from goal to preserve the 1-0 lead going into the break.

In the second frame, Fitchburg State continued to pressure as Norden, Bridges and freshman Whitney Mansfield all had quality scoring chance in the opening minutes of the second half but Stott was up to the task once again, turning away all three opportunities.

The hosts added an insurance marker at the 63:05 mark, when Tsonis blasted a shot inside the near post for her second tally of the season on an assist from senior Danielle Kent, resulting in the 2-0 final.

Throughout the contest, Fitchburg State held a slim 14-13 advantage in shots, while the Colonels finished with a 5-3 margin in corner kicks. Between the pipes, senior Kelsey Ford posted eight saves in the complete game effort for the Falcons, while Stott stopped nine shots for Curry, en-route to earning her fifth clean sheet on the season.
