Steele turns aside nine shots for Falcons in MASCAC opener

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 decision to the Rams of Framingham State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this evening at Bowditch Field.

In the first half of play, Fitchburg State and Framingham State combined for six shots on target as junior Morgan Steele turned away two shots for the Falcons, while counterpart Keyonzia Gagne-Lamoureux made four saves for the Rams to keep the score deadlocked at 0-0 going into the intermission.

Following the break, the Rams broke the 0-0 stalemate in the 78th minute of play when junior back Michaela Hyland fired a shot into the back of the net off an assist from classmate Angela Pallotta for her second marker on the season for the 1-0 advantage.

Fitchburg State nearly knotted the score at the 81:22 mark as junior forward Victoria Floeck blasted a shot from 25 yards out off of a free kick, but Gagne-Lamoureux made a sprawling save to her right to preserve the 1-0 final.

For the contest, Framingham State held a 15-7 advantage in shots, while also holding a slim 3-2 margin in corner kicks. In between the pipes, Steele concluded the contest with nine saves for Fitchburg State, while Gagne-Lamoureux turned away three shots for the Rams en-route to the victory.

Fitchburg State (2-3-0, 0-1-0 MASCAC) returns to action on Tuesday as it hosts the Colonels of Curry College at 7 p.m. Framingham State (4-2-0, 1-0-0 MASCAC) will hosts Rhode Island College on Wednesday for a contest starting at 4 p.m.
