UMass Dartmouth Upends Fitchburg State, 4-0

Steele stops three shots for the Falcons in non-conference setback

DARTMOUTH, Mass.– Four different players registered goals as the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth defeated Fitchburg State University, 4-0 in non-conference women's soccer action this evening at Cressy Field.

In the opening frame, UMass Dartmouth took the lead just 8:54 in the stanza as sophomore midfielder Abby Silva struck for her fourth marker on the season off assists from juniors Nicole Starkey-Cox and Talia D'Ambruoso for the 1-0 margin going into the break.

Following intermission, the Corsairs doubled their advantage (2-0) at the 46:38 mark when junior defender Kayli Berche blasted a shot inside the far post for her second score of the 2015 campaign.

The hosts upped its lead two minutes last as junior Erica Farias collected a corner kick of the foot of classmate Talia D'Ambruoso and deposited the ball into the net for her first tally of the season before D"Ambuoso registered her fourth goal on the season in the 52nd minute of play, resulting in the 4-0 final.

Throughout the match UMass Dartmouth held a commanding 20-4 advantage in shots, while also holding a 4-0 margin in corners. Between the pipes, junior Morgan Steele finished with three stops in the complete game effort for Fitchburg State, while sophomore Madison Boucher made two saves in 90 minutes of work for the Corsairs.

Fitchburg State (2-9-0, 0-3-0 MASCAC) will be back in action on Wednesday as it hosts the Lynx of Lesley University at 7 p.m. UMass Dartmouth (4-4-1, 1-1-1 LEC) travel to the University of Southern Maine for a contest starting 7 p.m.
