Steele registers five saves in Falcons non-conference setback

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Fitchburg State suffered a 2-0 setback to the Lynx's of Lesley University in non-conference women's soccer action this evening at Elliot Field.

The Lynx received the best of the scoring opportunities in the first 45 minutes of action, but were unable to convert, seeing a couple of 2 on 1 opportunities on offense halted by the Falcon goalkeeper Morgan Steele to keep the score at 0-0 going into the break.

Following a defensive first half battle, Lesley broke the 0-0 stalemate 17 minutes into the stanza when junior defender Julie Essick received a pass from sophomore Karlie Rubin in the box and put it to the back of the net for third marker of the season for the 1-0 lead.

Minutes later it would be the Rubin finding the back of the net for her second goal on the year, following a feed teammate Jordan Mitchell to make the score 2-0 with just over 26 minutes remaining in the contest.

The Green and Gold turned up the offensive pressure over the final 20 minutes of action as sophomore Whitney Mansfield and junior Victoria Floeck each put shots towards goal only to have Lynx net minder Lilly Donovan turn away both chances , resulting in the 2-0 final.

Throughout the match, Lesley held a 13-5 advantage in shots, while also holding a 6-0 margin in corner kicks. In goal, Steele concluded the contest with five saves for the Falcons in the complete game effort, while the duo of senior Jackie Berard and Donovan stopped three shots for Lesley.
