Emmanuel Tops Fitchburg State, 3-0

Foster registers seven saves in non-conference setback

BOSTON, Mass. - The Fitchburg State women's soccer team was in action this evening, dropping a tough 3-0 decision to the Saints of Emmanuel College in non-conference action at Clemente Field.

In the first half, Emmanuel took the lead just 6:21 into the contest as sophomore forward Kayla Generis settled a feed from senior Savannah Lundwall and fired a shot inside the near post for her third goal on the season for the 1-0 margin.

The Saints doubled their advantage in the 20th minute of play when junior Emily David fed a pass over to freshman Kaylin Deschenes, who proceeded to deposited the ball into the back of the net for her first collegiate tally to make the score 2-0 going into halftime.

Fitchburg State nearly cut into the deficit at the 81:20 mark when freshman forward Shalee Callahan blasted a shot on frame, but Emmanuel netminder Victoria LaRoche was able to corral the shot to keep the score at 2-0.

Emmanuel added an insurance marker with just over three minutes left in the contest as senior midfielder Maggie Carey lofted a shot into the left side of the net for her third score on the season off an assist from freshman Olivia Collins, resulting in the 3-0 final.

Throughout the match, Emmanuel held an 11-2 advantage in shots, while also holding a 5-1 margin in corner kicks. In goal, freshman Alexandra Foster made seven saves in the complete game effort for the Falcons, while LaRoche turned away one shot in 90 minutes of work for the Saints.
