Women's Soccer Opens Third Straight Season with Win

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's soccer team downed Bay Path University 1-0 in double overtime in non-conference action on Friday evening at Elliot Field.

How It Happened

Even play throughout the first half saw FSU hold a 4-1 shot lead through the first 45 minutes, but the second half was controlled by the Falcons, who found opportunities aplenty and outshot Bay Path 10-2 in the second frame.

The Wildcats had their best opportunity to break into the scoring column as Junior Joanne Feliciano released a shot heading inside the far post when Falcons' back Bridget Reardon (Rockland, Mass.) was able to clear the ball from to goal line and keep the match scoreless.

Micalea Goldenberg (Douglas, Mass.) converted a penalty kick score two minutes into the second overtime for the 1-0 win.

This is the fifth meeting between the two teams, Falcons currently hold a 4-1 advantage

It was Fitchburg State freshman keeper Sarah Hemmings (Eastham, Mass.) first collegiate start, win and shutout in net.

Fitchburg State has won its last two season openers by the scores of 1-0 and 1-0, both against Bay Path the last two season.

Freshman Rayna Ramirez (Agawam, Mass.) led the Falcons with two shots on net.

Each team had three corner kicks, Fitchburg State University outshot Bay Path 20-5 for the contest
