Morris nets first collegiate tally for Fitchburg State in key MASCAC victory
Buzzards Bay, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's soccer team opened Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) play this evening, defeating the Buccaneers of Mass. Maritime Academy, 3-1 at Clean Harbors Stadium.

How It Happene
Fitchburg State opened the scoring at the 20:59 mark as freshman forward Kerri Morris (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) settled a loose ball 30 yards out, before converting a breakaway attempt, tucking the ball into the lower right corner for her first collegiate tally to make the score 1-0.
Following intermission, the Green and Gold double its advantage (2-0) when sophomore midfielder Brittny Peralta (Leominster, Mass./St. Bernard's) gathered a feed from Morris and one-timed a shot into the back of the net for her first tally on the season.
The Falcons upped its margin at the 62:55 mark as senior back Siobhan O'Connell (Scituate, Mass./Cardinal Spellman) headed a corner kick off the foot of freshman midfielder Rayna Ramirez (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) into the upper left corner for her first marker of the year for the 3-0 lead.
Mass. Maritime broke its scoring silence late in the second frame when junior forward Madison Taylor (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) struck for her team-leading fourth goal on the season, resulting in the 3-1 final.
Inside the Numbers
This evening's contest marked the tenth meeting between the two schools on the pitch with the Falcons 9-0-1 all-time when taking on the Buccaneers.
Fitchburg State finished with a 26-8 advantage in shots, while also holding a 5-1 margin in corner kicks.
In goal for the Falcons, freshman Sarah Hemmings (Eastham, Mass./Nauset Regional) stopped four of the five shots she faced en-route to her second win on the year, while sophomore Sara Coffey (Norton, Mass./Norton) made ten saves for the Buccaneers in the setback.
