 Medina’s Score Propels Falcons Past Bulldogs

 Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's soccer team snapped a two-game winless streak with a 1-0 victory over Dean College on Tuesday evening in non-conference action on Alumni Field.

 How It Happened

The two teams battled to a zero stalemate in the first frame, the host outshot the Bulldogs 10-0 but couldn't solve Dean's sophomore goalkeeper Macy Parisee (East Freetown, Mass.), who made several key saves.

At the 51st minute, Falcons' freshman Shannon Burke (Salem, Mass.), breaking down the left wing, threaded a pass across the box to junior Maddie Medina (Pelham, Mass.) who deposited the goal into the empty net for the 1-0 lead.

Bulldogs' freshman Mackenzie Parisee (East Freetown, Mass.) had the best chance of the night for the visitors, a break-a-way with just under five minutes remaining that Falcons' goaltender Sarah Hemmings (Eastham, Mass) turned away to preserve the victory.

Inside the Numbers

Falcons outshot the Bulldogs (29-3) and held the advantage (5-0) in penalty corners.

Hemmings posted three saves for her second shut-out of the season.

Macy Parisee corralled 15 saves in the loss for Dean.

Second meeting between two schools on the pitch with the Falcons claiming a 2-0 win last season in the series opener with the Bulldogs.

Fitchburg State freshman goalkeeper Sarah Hemmings ranks fourth in the MASCAC with a 2.10 goals against average.

The Falcons return to action on Thursday when they travel to Salve Regina for a 3:00pm non-conference game. The Bulldogs host Mitchell College on Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm.
