Hemmings stops two shots for Falcons in MASCAC setback 

Salem, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to the Vikings of Salem State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this afternoon at Alumni Field.

How It Happened

Salem State opened the scoring just 1:29 into the match as sophomore midfielder Kelly Blanchard (Bridgewater, Mass.) connected on her first tally of the season. The Vikings doubled its advantage (2-0) with just over five minutes remaining in the first half when freshman midfielder Emily Boyle (Manchester, N.H.) registered her team-leading sixth goal of the year.

The hosts upped its advantage roughly three minutes later as Blanchard collected a feed from sophomore Keely Gallagher (Middleton, Mass.) and deposited the ball into the back of the net for her second score of the contest to make the score 3-0 going into the intermission.

Following the break, The Vikings tacked on an insurance marker at the 58:07 when sophomore Katie Brown (Milford, Mass.) fired a shot into the right side of the net for her second marker on the season, resulting in the 4-0 final.

Inside the Numbers

This afternoon's contest marks the 25th meeting between two schools on the pitch with the Falcons 5-20-0 when taking on the Vikings.

Vikings have won the last four contests against the Green and Gold.

Freshman keeper Sarah Hemmings (Eastham, Mass.) made two saves for the Falcons, while junior Amanda Backe (Danvers, Mass.) turned aside three shots for the Vikings.

Salem State finished with a 15-6 margin in shots, while also holding a 12-3 advantage in corners.

Sophomore Nicole Kopacz (Tewksbury, Mass.) and freshman McKenzie Tenney (Orange, Mass.) paced the Falcons with two shots each.
