Medlin, Fraser and Kopacz notch first collegiate tallies for Falcons 

Chestnut Hill, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's soccer team defeated the Gators of Pine Manor College, 6-2 this afternoon in non-conference action at Headley Field.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State took a quick 2-0 lead in the first 16 minutes of play as freshman Kate Fraser (Berkley, Mass.) collected her first collegiate tally before classmate McKenzie Tenney (Orange, Mass.) found the back of the net second tally on the year.

After a goal by sophomore Cassie Cavender (Clarksville, Tenn.) (2-1), the Falcons upped its advantage just before the break when sophomore Nicole Kopacz (Tewksbury, Mass.) blasted a free kick form 40 yards out into the back of the net for her first collegiate tally to make the score 3-1.

Following intermission, the Green and Gold tacked on three more scores as sophomore Brittny Peralta (Leominster, Mass.), freshman Haleigh Medlin (Baldwinville, Mass.) and senior Siobhan O'Connell (Scituate, Mass.) connected on markers, resulting in the 6-2 final.

Inside the Numbers

Just second meeting between two schools on the pitch with the Falcons 2-0-0 when taking on the Gators.

Fitchburg State defeated Pine Manor, 1-0 on Sept. 22, 1993 in the first meeting between the two schools.

Freshman Sarah Hemmings (Eastham, Mass.) turned away three shots for the Falcons in the complete game effort, while senior Jesta Gilmore (Yuma, Ariz.) made 12 saves for the Gators in 90 minutes of action.

Fitchburg State finished with a 28-10 edge in shots, while Pine Manor held a 4-2 margin in corner kicks.
