Hemmings stops five shots for the Falcons in MASCAC setback 

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to the Trailblazers of MCLA in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this afternoon at Elliot Field.

How It Happened

MCLA took the lead in the 35th minute of  action as sophomore forward Kaylyn Holiday (Catskill, N.Y.) collected a pass from classmate Hannah Van De Water (Cambridge, N.Y.) and fired a shot inside the near post for her second marker on the year for the 1-0 edge after 45 minutes of play.

In the second half, Fitchburg State nearly knotted the score midway through the frame when freshman forward McKenzie Tenney (Orange, Mass.) and junior midfielder Maddie Medina (Pelham, N.H.) put back-to-back shots on frame, but Trailblazer goaltender Megan Richardson (Adams, Mass.) turned away both shots to preserve the 1-0 margin.

The Trailblazers added an insurance marker with six seconds left in regulation as junior Lauren Mangiardi found freshman midfielder Shannon Prouty (Leicester, Mass.) in front of the net for her first collegiate tally, resulting in the 2-0 final.

24th meeting between the two schools on the pitch with the Falcons 8-13-3 when taking on the Trailblazers.

MCLA has won seven of the previous nine meeting with Fitchburg State.

Freshman Sarah Hemmings (Eastham, Mass.) finished with five saves for the Falcons, while sophomore Megan Richardson (Adams, Mass.) stopped eight shots for the Trailblazers.

Fitchburg State finished with a 16-10 advantage in shots, while also holding a slim 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
