Hemmings turns aside six shots for Falcons in MASCAC setback 

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to the Owls of Westfield State University this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Elliot Field.

How It Happened

Westfield State took the lead at the 8:03 mark when sophomore midfielder Marissa McGue (Quincy, Mass.) collected a shot off the post from senior Kenzie Saltmarsh (Westfield, Mass.) and tucked the ball inside the far post for her fifth goal of the season for the 1-0 margin going into halftime.

In the second half, the Owls doubled their advantage (2-0) in the 57th minute of play as sophomore midfielder Bella Eduardo (Springfield, Mass.) settled a feed from classmate Juliana Templeton (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) and deposited the ball into the right side of the net for her team-leading ninth tally on the year.

Westfield State added an insurance marker at the 88:51 mark when freshman Morgan Remington (Enfield, Conn.) received a pass from junior Ashley Levya (Walpole, Mass.) and tucked the ball inside the left post for her third goal of the season, resulting in the 4-0 final.

26th meeting between the two schools on the pitch with the Falcons 5-19-2 when taking on the Owls.

Westfield State has won five of the last six contests against Fitchburg State with the Falcons defeating the Owls, 2-1 in overtime last year.

Freshman Sarah Hemmings (Eastham, Mass.) finished with six saves for the Falcons, while sophomore senior Leah Ciampa (Danvers, Mass.) stopped went untested in 70:30 minutes of action for the Owls to earn her first victory on the year

Prior to the contest, Fitchburg State honored one senior playing her final regular season, #21 Siobhan O'Connell (Scituate, Mass.).

Westfield State finished with a 20-1 advantage in shots, while also holding an 8-1 margin in corner kicks.

Falcons will travel to Rhode Island College on Wednesday to take on the Anchorwomen for a contest starting at 6 p.m. The Owls will visit Simmons College on the same day for a 7 p.m. start.
