MASCAC Pre-Season Women’s Soccer Poll Announced

Falcons place seventh overall with 16 points

FITCHBURG, Mass. –The Fitchburg State women's soccer team was recently selected seventh overall with 16 points in the 2018 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) pre-season women's soccer poll as voted on by the league's coaches.

Westfield State, the reigning MASCAC regular season and post-season tournament champions, earned three of the eight first place votes to place first overall with 45 points to outdistance second place Bridgewater State's total of 42 points, which included three first place ballots.

Finishing in a tie for second place with the Bears was Worcester State with a 42 points, including the final two place votes, while Salem State followed in fourth after amassing 29 points. Framingham State was next, placing fifth with 20 points, while MCLA finished in sixth with 18 points. Fitchburg State and Massachusetts Maritime rounded out the 2018 MASCAC Women's Soccer Pre-Season Poll in seventh and eighth place with 16 points and 12 points respectively.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football in 2013-14.

The Fitchburg State women's soccer team will kick off its 2018 season on Friday, August 31st as it travels to Bay Path College to take on the Wildcats at Ryan Field for a contest starting at 4:00 p.m.
