Bears Claw Past Falcons in MASCAC Action

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to the Bears of Bridgewater State in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this morning at Elliot Field.

How It Happened

The Bears opened the game with a quick score just two minutes into the match. Junior Emma Sanders (Seekonk, Mass.) had a low line drive tip off the hands of Falcon's netminder Sarah Hemmings (Eastham, Mass.) to an open Delaney Langton (Scituate, RI) for her first collegiate goal.

Bridgewater doubled the lead with an unassisted tally from Sanders in the ninth minute and senior Nicole Simas (Dartmouth, Mass.) added her third of the season at the 13:51 mark.

Langton added her second of the game to extend the lead to 4-0 heading into intermission.

The Falcons tipped the twine for the only goal in the second half. Freshman Elicia Marshall (Taunton, Mass.) delivered a blistering shot to the right corner post for her MASCAC leading seventh goal of the season.

By The Numbers

Bridgewater held the advantage in shots (21-10) and corners (4-3).

Mikaela Mitchell (Millbury, Mass.)  and Marshall paced the Falcons with four shots on goal apiece.

Junior Kellie Souza (Wilmington, Mass.) made 5 saves for her fifth win of the season, Hemmings posted 12 saves in the loss.
