MASCAC Pre-Season Women’s Soccer Poll Announced
Falcons place sixth overall with 20 points
FITCHBURG, Mass. –The Fitchburg State women's soccer team was recently selected sixth overall with 20 points in the 2019 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) pre-season women's soccer poll as voted on by the league's coaches.
Westfield State, the reigning MASCAC post-season n tournament champions, earned four of the eight first place votes to place first overall with 50 points to outdistance second place Worcester State's total of 42 points, which included two first place ballots.
Bridgewater State followed in a close third with 41 total points, which included the final two first place ballots, while Salem State was next, placing fourth with 28 points. Framingham State sat in fifth with 23 points, while Fitchburg State landed in sixth with a total of 20 points.
MCLA and Massachusetts Maritime rounded out the 2019 MASCAC Women's Soccer Pre-Season Poll in seventh and eighth place with 14 points and six points respectively.
The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football in 2013-14.
The Fitchburg State women's soccer team will kick off its 2019 season on Friday, August 30th as it travels to Dean College to take on the Bulldogs at the Longley Athletic Complex for a contest starting at 12:00 p.m.
