Read nets first two collegiate goals for Falcons in non-conference victory 

Franklin, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's soccer team opened the 2019 season this afternoon, defeating the Bulldogs of Dean College, 2-0 in non-conference action at the Longely Athletic Complex.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State broke a 0-0 stalemate late in the first half when freshman midfielder Mollie Burke (Athol, Mass.) found an open Elizabeth Read (Lowell, Mass.) in front of the net, who then buried a shot inside the near post for her first collegiate tally for the 1-0 advantage.

In the second half, the Falcons doubled their margin (2-0) in the 53rd minute of action as Read collected a pass from senior Brittny Peralta (Leominster, Mass.) and deposited the ball into the back of the net for her second score of the contest.

Inside the Numbers

This afternoon's contest marks just the second meeting all-time between the two team in women's soccer with the Falcons 2-0-0 when taking on the Bulldogs.

Fitchburg State secured a 2-0 triumph in the first meeting on Oct. 12, 2018 at Elliot Field.

Fitchburg State head coach Jeb Booth earned his first collegiate coaching win.

Falcons netminder Emily Vitale (Ashland, Mass.) collected her first collegiate victory in goal.

The Bulldogs held a 23-11 margin in shots, while also holding a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Vitale and freshman Dania Politi (Springfield, Mass.) combined to stop ten shots for Fitchburg State, while senior Macy Parisee (East Freetown, Mass.) made three saves for Dean College in the setback.
