Surrette collects first collegiate goal for Falcons in non-conference setback

Franklin, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's soccer team suffered a tough 3-2 setback to the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer College this afternoon in second round action of the Bull Dog Classic, hosted by Dean College at the Longley Athletic Complex.

How It Happened

Colby-Sawyer grabbed a 1-0 lead just 5:34 into the match as freshman Hannah Marguis (Weare, N.H.) collected a feed from senior Leah Dupruis (Concord, N.H.) and struck for her first collegiate tally.

Fitchburg State answered back to knot the score (1-1) in the 17th minute of play with sophomore Taylin Surrette (Bellingham, Mass.) registering her first collegiate goal off an assist from freshman Elizabeth Read (Lowell, Mass.). The Chargers would take a 3-1 advantage going into the break though with freshman Sydney Jimmo (Shelburne, Vt.) and newcomer Theo Albert (Wilmington, Mass.) notching goals in roughly six minutes apart.

Following the intermission, the Falcons cut the deficit to 3-2 with 14 minutes left in regulation when junior McKenzie Tenney (Orange, Mass.) gathered a ball from Read and tucked the ball into the back of the net for her first goal on the season, but the Chargers would hold off the Falcons for the 3-2 final.
