Goldenberg notches lone score for Green and Gold in non-conference setback

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to the Hawks of Becker College this afternoon in on-conference action from Elliot Field.

The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State 1, Becker 3

Records: Fitchburg State (1-2-0) | Becker (2-1-0)

How It Happened

Becker opened the scoring 7:43 into the contest as senior midfielder Kyra Teixeira (Old Lyme, Conn.) tucked a shot inside the near post off a free kick from her team-leading fourth tally on the season for the 1-0 edge.

Following the break, Fitchburg State nearly knotted the score when junior Tess Angelosanto (Stoneham, Mass.) riffled a shot that sailed just wide before the Hawks doubled their margin (2-0) in the 70th minute of action with Teixeira collecting her second score of the contest.

Becker tacked on an insurance marker at the 76:49 mark on a goal from Shannon Kelley (Bellingham, Mass.) off an assist from senior Meghan Ballentine (Gardner, Mass.). Fitchburg State would cut the deficit to 3-1 with just over three minutes left in the contest as senior Micaela Goldenberg (Douglas, Mass.) converted a penalty kick for her first goal on the season, resulting in the 3-1 final.
