Hemmings stops nine shots in conference setback

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State Women's Soccer team suffered a tough 3-0 setback to the Owls of Westfield State this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from Elliot Field.

The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State 0, Westfield State 3

Records: Fitchburg State (4-7-0, 1-2 MASCAC) | Westfield State (5-4-1, 2-1 MASCAC)

How It Happened

Westfield State grabbed the lead 56 seconds into the contest as senior Bella Eduardo (Springfield, Mass.) connected on her sixth score of the year off an assist from sophomore Jenn Rennich (Bedford, Mass.) for the 1-0 edge.

The Owls doubled their advantage (2-0) in the 32nd minute of action when freshman Lydia Kinsman (Granville, Mass.) gathered a feed from junior Morgan Remington (Enfield, Conn.) and headed the ball inside the near post for her fifth tally on the year.

Following the break, the Green and Gold threatened as freshman Elizabeth Read (Lowell, Mass.) and junior Shannon McCarthy (Chicopee, Mass.) put shots on frame, but Owls keeper Lauryn Davis (Templeton, Mass.) turned aside both shots.

Westfield State secured the victory late in the stanza with Rennich notching her second goal of the 2019 campaign, resulting in the 3-0 final.
