LeBlond nets first collegiate score for Fitchburg State in MASCAC victory

Buzzards Bay, Mass. – The Fitchburg State Women's Soccer team suffered defeated the Buccaneers of Mass. Maritime Academy, 3-2 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this afternoon from Clean Harbor Stadium.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State opened the scoring just 20 seconds into the contest as freshman forward Elizabeth Read (Lowell, Mass.) gathered a feed from junior Shannon McCarthy (Chicopee, Mass.) and connected on her team-leading ninth marker on the season for the 1-0 advantage.

The Green and Gold double their margin (2-0) in the 11th minute of play when Read netted her second goal of the contest. Mass. Maritime cut the lead to 2-1 at the 18:57 mark with freshman Arial Damery (Plympton, Mass.) notched her third score of the 2019 campaign.

The Falcons answered back with 16 minutes left in the half as freshman Lindsay LeBlond (Candia, N.H.) notched her first collegiate tally off an assist from senior Natalie Arsenault (Ashburnham, Mass.) for the 3-1 edge going into the break.

Following the intermission, the Buccaneers responded late in the stanza when freshman Julia Podchaiski (Wallingford, Conn.) lofted a shot from 18 yards out into the back of the net for her first collegiate goal, resulting in the 3-2 final.
