Fitzgerald nets first collegiate goal for Green and Gold

Fitchburg, MA – The Fitchburg State women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to the Rams of Suffolk University in non-conference action this afternoon from Elliot Field.

The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State 1, Suffolk 2

Records: Fitchburg State (1-4, 0-0 MASCAC) | Suffolk (3-1-1, 0-0-0 GNAC)

How It Happened

Suffolk threatened early in the first frame as junior Kylie Flynn (Stoughton, MA) and classmate Chelsea Fallon (Saint Johns, FL) put shots on frame, but Falcon keeper Madison Dawkins (Haverhill, MA) denied both chances.

Fitchburg State's best scoring opportunity of the first half with two minutes remaining in the stanza when senior Ashley Porter (Upton, MA) ripped a free kick on goal only to have Rams netminder Arden Ferrari-Henry (Atkinson, NH) turn the shot aside to preserve the 0-0 stalemate going into the break.

Following the intermission, Rams broke the 0-0 deadlock in the 58th minute of action as freshman Makena Columbus (Bridgewater, MA) laced a shot into the right side of the net for her second tally on the season for the 1-0 margin.

Suffolk doubled the lead *at the 64:08 mark with Flynn collecting a loose ball in front of the net and depositing a shot inside the left post for her second marker of the 2023 campaign off an assist from freshman Camille Morin-Trotta (Westminster, MA) to make the score 2-0

Fitchburg State dented the scoreboard five minute later when freshman Delia Fitzgerald (Foxboro, MA) received a feed from sophomore Adrianna Westcott (Sayreville, NJ) and blasted a shot into the back of the net for her first collegiate goal, resulting in the 2-1 final.
