Fitchburg State Visits Tufts Stampede

Conaty paces men with post season vault of 4.30m; Wilkinson leads women with ECAC qualifying time in the 600m

MEDFORD, Mass. (February 2, 2013) – The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams were in action this afternoon as they competed at 2013 Tufts Stampede hosted by Tufts University.

On the women’s side, junior Samantha Wilkinson (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield) posted an ECAC qualifying time of 1:43.95 with an eighth place finish in the 600m, while sophomore Rebecca McClure (Lyndeborough, N.H./Wilton-Lyndeborough) notched a seventh place finish in the pole vault with a vault of 2.90m.

Freshman Erica Mallozzi (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) put forth a PR time of 5:52.54 in mile, while adding a season best (3:40.98) in the 1000m. Freshman Elizabeth Ward (Ashby, Mass./North Middlesex) was also solid, notching a time 11:52.62 in 3000m, while junior Stephanie Irvin (Malden, Mass./Mystic Valley) 1:09.62 in the 400m and sophomore Morgan Cefalu (Hudson, Mass./Assabet Valley) 7.67m  in the shot put, registered PR’s as well.

Sophomore Arthina Robert (Lynn, Mass./Lynn Voc Tech) posted a season best time of 8.17 in the 60m dash, while classmate Ebony Schuerman (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) added a solid time of 1:11.59 in the 400m sprint. Freshman Courtney Shaffer (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) was also strong in the 60m with a time of 9.37, while sophomore Braila Roy (Hyannis, Mass./Barnstable) and junior Karollynn Wickless-Adams (Lansdale, Penn./North Penn) rounded out the top Falcons performers for the women with season best times of  3:24.18 (1000m) and 1:57.01 (600m) respectively.

For the men, junior Pat Conaty (Southington, Conn./Southington) paced the men, notching a DIII NE and MASCAC qualifying mark of 4.30m in the pole vault, while senior Will Lary (Winchendon, Mass./Murdock) placed tenth in the 1000m with a MASCAC qualifying time of 2:38.73.

On the track, freshman Tim Allen (Methuen, Mass./Central Catholic) posted a post season qualifying time of 9:34.35 in the 3000m, while senior Michael Grasela (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) registered a pair of qualifying time in the mile (4:49.76) and 1000m (2:55.35). In the mile, junior Larry Teague (Tyngsboro, Mass./Greater Lowell) (5:14.06), freshman Sam Carroll (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) (5:08.45) and classmate Jeff Kavasch (Seabrook, N.H./Beverly) (5:15.43) all posted MASCAC qualifying times, while Kavasch added a post season mark of 5:59.07 in the 1000m.

Freshman Kwaku Mensah (Worcester, Mass./Burncoat) was strong in the 60m dash, with a MASCAC qualifying time of 7.50, while the men’s 4x200m relay team of freshmen Michael Corvin (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow), Akhiel Willis (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough), Brandon Brideau (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) and sophomore Maximin Rocheleau (Winchendon, Mass./Murdock) notched a post season time of 1:39.52

In the 600m, sophomore Ethan Gorecki (Winchendon, Mass./Murdock) (1:28.48), senior Josh Kaddy (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont) (1:30.25), freshman Richard Ethier (Shirley, Mass./Parker Charter School) (1:29.05) and Brideau all posted MASCAC qualifying time, while Rocheleau and freshman Daniel Fitzpatrick (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) added solid times of 54:22 and 54.98 in the 400m.

In the field, freshman Kevin Duong (Fitchburg, Mass./Monty Tech) posted a MASCAC qualifying throw of 9.65m in the weight throw, while junior Tim Rymer (Littleton, Mass./Littleton) rounded out the top performers for the men, with a post season toss of 9.29m in the weight throw.

The Fitchburg State men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams return to action next Saturday as they compete at 2013 MASCAC Championships hosted by the University of Southern Maine starting at 11 a.m.
