Fitchburg State Opens At UMass Boston Open Invite

Woolley sets new meet record in the 60m hurdles with Open NE qualifying time of 9.02 seconds 

Roxbury, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's indoor track and field team competed opened its 2017-18 campaign this afternoon at the sixth annual UMass Boston Open Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Track & Field Center.

Senior Annie Woolley (Malden, Mass.) paved the way for the Falcons, setting a new meet record in the 60 meter hurdles with first place time of 9.02 seconds to qualify for Open New England's, while adding DIII NE qualifying times in the 60 meter dash (8.16) and the 200m (26.80), placing seventh in both events.

In the 400 meter, newcomer Isabella Berardi (Norton, Mass.) (104:64) and sophomore Micalea Goldenberg (Douglas, Mass.) placed tenth and 13th respectively to qualify for MASCAC's, while junior Amy Kelly (Stoughton, Mass.) posted a post-season qualifying time of 19:31.43 in the 5000m with a seventh place finish, setting a new PR in the process.

Senior Shawna Ryan (Hanson, Mass.) was also solid for Fitchburg State, placing 4th overall in the 500 meter with time of 1:27.33, while junior Casey Taylor (Chelmsford, Mass.) added a MASCAC qualifying time of 11:50.16 with a 16th place effort in the 3000m.

Sophomore Brianna Young (Mansfield, Mass.) qualified for MASCAC's in the shotput (10.35m) and weight throw (10.46m) after finishing 14th and 22nd respectively, while in the long jump, Berardi (20th) and senior Olivia Milsted (Pocasset, Mass.) notched post-season qualifying marks of 4.40m and 4.30m respectively.

In the high jump, newcomer Megan Socha (Boston, Mass.) and classmate Franchesca Diaz (Springfield, Mass.) notched MASCAC qualifying marks of 1.35 meters each, while senior Sadie Zbikowski (Ashburnham, Mass.) placed fifth in the pole vault with a MASCAC qualifying vault of 2.90 meters.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Kelly, freshman Kambrynn Bowman (Norton, Mass.), Goldenberg and Ryan put forth a strong seventh place time of 4:31.71  to close out the top Falcon efforts on the day.

The Fitchburg State men's track and field team will be back in action next Saturday at it travels to Plymouth State University for a meet starting at 10:00 A.M.
