Fitchburg State Shines At Tufts

Woolley earns top honors in the 60m hurdles with Open NE qualifying time of 8.85 seconds

Medford, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's indoor track and field team returned to action this afternoon, finishing 12th with a totals of 16 points at the inaugural Branwen Smith-King Invitational, hosted by Tufts University.

Senior Annie Woolley (Malden, Mass.) continued her stellar 2017-18 campaign after earning top honors for the Falcons with an Open New England qualifying time of 8.85 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles, while junior Amy Kelly (Stoughton, Mass.) turned in a MASCAC qualifying time of 19:02.06 in the 5000 meter with a ninth place effort.

In the 400 meter, freshmen Kambrynn Bowman (Norton, Mass.) and Isabella Denio-Miller (Washington, Ind.) posted MASCAC qualifying times of 1:46.22 and 1:57.68 after placing seventh and 16th respectively, while senior Nicole Gaffney (Paxton, Mass.) posted a post-season qualifying time of 5:44.10 in the mile.

In the 60 meter dash, senior Amanda Remie (Marstons Mills, Mass.), junior Samantha Woodman (Essex, Mass.) and senior Angelica Beato (Lowell, Mass.) posted MASCAC qualifying times of 8.69 seconds, 8.87 seconds and 8.89 seconds, while Remie and newcomer Isabella Berardi (Norton, Mass.) added post-season qualifying times of 28.49 seconds and 28.69 seconds respectively in the 200 meter.

Senior Shawna Ryan (Hanson, Mass.) and junior Jennifer Desilvestre (Beverly, Mass.) placed 25th and 28th in the 800 meter with times of 2:44.84 and 3:04.95 to qualify for MASCAC's, while the 4x200 meter relay team of Beato, Woodman, freshman Rene Gagne (North Attleboro, Mass.) and classmate Makaisha Gonzalez (Lancaster, Mass.) turned in a time of 1:54.23 with a fifth place effort.

In the field, freshman Megan Socha (Chicopee, Mass.) qualified for MASCAC's in the high jump (1.34m) and the pole vault (2.45m), while in the long jump, Berardi placed 11th overall with post-season qualifying mark of 4.80 meters.

Sophomore Kelly Mccusker-Brown (Watertown, Mass.) turned in a pair of solid efforts for the Falcons in the shot put (6.30m) and the weight throw (5.94m), while junior Brianna Young (Mansfield, Mass.) added a MASCAC qualifying toss of 9.10 meter in the shot put.

Desilvestre rounded out the top Fitchburg State performances on the day, placing 13th overall in the triple jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 8.71 meters.

The Fitchburg State women's track and field team returns to action next weekend it competes at Wesleyan University for a meet starting at 10:00 AM.
