Falcons Shine At Reggie Poyau Invitational

Murphy leads the way for Green and Gold with pair of top ten finishes

Waltham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's indoor track & field team placed ninth overall at the 2020 Reggie Poyau Invitational this afternoon with a total of six points, hosted by Brandeis University at the Gosman Sports and Convocation Center.

How It Happened

Freshman Abigail Murphy (Quincy, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons, fifth overall in the 800 meter with a MASCAC qualifying time of 2:37.41, while adding a tenth place effort in the 3000 meter with a post-season qualifying time of 11:43.21.

In the 60 meter hurdles, newcomer Devin Tormey (Fitchburg, Mass.) notched a post-season qualifying time of 10.87 seconds with a 14th place finish, while classmate Marissa Ladderbush (Tewksbury, Mass.) placed 17th in the 60 meter dash with MASCAC qualifying time of 8.53 seconds.

In the 3000 meter, junior Olivia Mullins (Plaistow, N.H.) notched a post-season qualifying time of 11:45.27 after placing 11th overall, while newcomer Lilah McAndrew (Old Lyme, Conn.) turned in a MASCAC qualifying time of 2:44.83 in the 800 meter with a tenth place finsh.

In the field, seniors Brianna Young (Mansfield, Mass.) (11.09m) and Kelly Mccusker-Brown (Watertown, Mass.) (8.88m) qualified for MASCAC's in the weight throw after placing ninth and 14th, while in the long jump, Ladderbush added a post-season qualifying mark of 4.64 meters with a tenth place finish.

In the shotput, Young (9.93m) and newcomer Samantha Moriconi (Billerica, Mass.) (9.34m) placed eighth and 16th for the Falcons to both qualify for MASCAC's. Junior Megan Socha (Chicopee, Mass.) was also strong for the Green and Gold with a pair of MASCAC qualifying mark, placing fourth in the pole vault (2.65m) and ninth in the high jump (1.41m), while freshman Molly Shurtleff (Lakeville, Mass.) concluded the top Falcon efforts on the day with a post-season qualifying time of 2:39.88 in the 600 meter after placing 17th overall.
