Murphy leads the way for Fitchburg State with second place finish in the 800 meter

Boston, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's indoor track & field team competed at the 2020 John Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University this afternoon.

How It Happened

Freshman Abigail Murphy (Quincy, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons, placing second overall in the 800 meter with a MASCAC qualifying time of 2:31.26, while sophomore Regan Kelly (Wilbraham, Mass.) added a third place effort in the 600 meter with a post-season qualifying time of 2:00.08.

In the 800 meter, newcomer Lilah McAndrew (Danbury, Conn.) (4th) and junior Olivia Mullins (Plaistow, N.H.) (5th) notched post-season qualifying times of 2:49.19 and 2:35.74, while freshman Marissa Ladderbush (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished fifth overall in the 60 meter with a MASCAC qualifying time of 8.46 seconds.

Sophomore Chloe Guzman (Pawtucket, Conn.) was also solid for Fitchburg State, turning in a MASCAC qualifying time of 28.17 seconds in the 200 meter after placing fourth in the event, while newcomer Molly Shurtleff (Lakeville, Mass.) finished sixth in the 400 meter with a post-season qualifying time of 1:32.08..

In the field, Ladderbush (5th) and sophomore Denise Yeboah (Worcester, Mass.) (6th) registered post-season qualifying marks of 4.57 meters and 4.38 meters in the long jump, while in the shotput, freshman Samantha Moriconi (Billerica, Mass.) and senior Brianna Young (Mansfield, Mass.) placed sixth and seventh respectively with MASCAC qualifying tosses of 9.57m and 9.51m.

In the weight throw, senior Kelly Mccusker-Brown (Watertown, Mass.) (8th), junior Guadalupe Dominguez (Worcester, Mass.) (9th) and Moriconi (10th) notched post-season qualifying tosses of 10.36 meters, 8.61 meters and 6.96 meters, while newcomer Devin Tormey (Fitchburg, Mass.) rounded out the top efforts for the Green and Gold with a sixth place time of 10.58 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles.
