Falcons Place Fourth At MASCAC Indoor Track Championships

Murphy qualifies for DIII NE's with first place time of 3:10.48 in the 1000 meter

Northampton, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's indoor track & field team placed fourth overall with a total of 55 points at the 2019-20 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's indoor track Championships this afternoon, hosted by Smith College.

How It Happened

Freshman Abigail Murphy (Quincy, Mass..) led the way for the Falcons, placing first overall in the 1000 meter with a DIII New England qualifying time of 3:10.48, while sophomore Denise Yeboah (Worcester, Mass.) added a second place effort of 4.87 meters in the long jump.

In the 800 meter, newcomers Lilah McAndrew (Lyme, Conn.) (5th), Nicole Cofer (Lowell, Mass.) (12th) and Nicolette Kennedy (Groveland, Mass.) (13th) turned in solid times of 2:36.30, 3:01.54 and 3:02.71, while sophomore Regan Kelly (Wilbraham, Mass.) posted a seventh place time of 1:54.54 in the 600 meter.

Junior Olivia Mullins (Plaistow, N.H.) notched a time of 11:34.75 in the 3000 meter after placing sixth in the event, while in the 200 meter, freshman Selina Gibbons (Littleton, Mass.) (28.33), sophomore Chloe Guzman (Pawtucket, Conn.) (28.40) and Yeboah (29.45) finished eighth, ninth and 13th respectively.

The 4x800 meter relay team of Murphy, Mullins, Kelley and McAndrew finished fourth with time of 11:34.74, while in the 60 meter hurdles, freshman Devin Tormey (Fitchburg, Mass.) placed fifth with time of 10.63 seconds.

In the field, junior Megan Socha (Chicopee, Mass.) posted a second place finish in the pole vault with mark of 2.50 meters, while in the weight throw, senior Brianna Young (Somerset, Mass.) (6th), newcomer Samantha Moriconi (Billerica, Mass.) (8th), and senior Kelly Mccusker-Brown (Watertown, Mass.) (9th) turned in tosses of 11.88, 9.86m and 9.60m.

In the shotput, Young (10.08m) and Moriconi (10.03m) placed third and fourth, while Guzman added a solid sixth place effort in the triple jump with a mark of 9.12 meters. Guzman rounded out the top Falcons efforts on the afternoon with a sixth place time of 8.49 seconds in the 60 meter dash.
