Fitchburg State Opens At Emory & Tufts

Woolley places second overall in 100 meter hurdles with Open NE qualifying time of 14.44 seconds 

Medford, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's outdoor track and field team opened its 2018 campaign this afternoon, placing 13th overall at the 2018 Emory Classic with a total of 16 points, while also placing 21st overall at the 2018 Tufts Snowflake Classic.

At Emory, senior Annie Woolley (Malden, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons, placing second overall in the 100 meter hurdles with an Open New England qualifying time of 14.44 seconds, while junior Amy Kelly (Stoughton, Mass.) posted a second place time of 40:53.65 in the 10,000 meter to qualify for DIII New England's.

At Tufts, senior Amanda Remie (Marstons Mills, Mass.) posted a pair of MASCAC qualifying time times in the 100 meter (13.84) and the 200 meter (28.39), while senior Shawna Ryan (Hanson, Mass.) turned in a post-season qualifying time of 1:16.33 in 400 meter hurdles with a 16th place effort.

Freshman Makaisha Gonzalez (Lancaster, Mass.) notched a MASCAC qualifying time of 13,49 seconds with an 11th place finish in the 100 meter hurdles, while junior Jennifer Desilvestre (Beverly, Mass.) added a MASCAC qualifying time of 3:09.24 in the 800 meter to go along with a post-season qualifying time of 6:27.20 in the 1500m.

In the field, sophomore Brianna Young (Mansfield, Mass.) placed 20th overall in the shotput with a MASCAC qualifying toss of 9.90 meters, while in the hammer throw, sophomore Kelly Mccusker-Brown (Watertown, Mass.) and Young added post-season qualifying throws of 23.61m and 22.85m respectively.

In the pole vault, senior Sadie Zbikowski (Ashburnham, Mass.) finished eighth overall with a post-season qualifying vault of 2.80m, while Mccusker-Brown and newcomer Madison Podedworny (Webster, Mass.) qualified for MASCAC's in the javelin with tosses of 18.95m and 13.65m respectively.

The 4x100 meter relay team of senior Angelica Beato (Lowell, Mass.), classmate Isabella Berardi (Norton, Mass.), Remie and Gonzalez placed ninth overall with a MASCAC qualifying time of 53.38 seconds to round out the top Falcon efforts on the afternoon.

The Fitchburg State women's outdoor track and field team returns to action next weekend as the Falcons hosts their annual Jim Sheehan Memorial Alumni Invitational on Saturday, April 7th at Elliot Field, starting at 10:00 AM.
