Fitchburg State Shines At Spring Fling

Woolley places first overall in the 100 meter hurdles with Open NE qualifying time of 14.59 seconds

South Hadley, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's outdoor track and field team returned to action this afternoon as it competed in the 2018 Spring Fling, hosted by Mount Holyoke College on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Annie Woolley (Malden, Mass.)  continued her strong start to the 2018 campaign, placing first overall in the 100 meter hurdles with an Open New England qualifying time of 14.57 seconds, while adding a DIII NE qualifying time of 12.70 seconds in the 100 meter dash after finishing second overall in that event.

In the 200 meter, freshman Isabella Berardi (Norton, Mass.) and senior Amanda Remie (Marstons Mills, Mass.) finished tenth and 11th with MASCAC qualifying times of 27.80 and 27.86, while Remie added a post season qualifying time of 13.39 seconds in the 100 meter after finishing tenth overall.

In the 400 meter, Berardi (6th) and sophomore Micalea Goldenberg (Douglas, Mass.) (9th) posted MASCAC qualifying times of 1:05.11 and 1:08.46, while senior Casey Taylor (Chelmsford, Mass.) turned in a post-season qualifying time of 20:02.15 in the 5000 meter with a third place effort.

Junior Amy Kelly (Stoughton, Mass.) notched a pair of MASCAC qualifying times in the 800 (2:30.31) and the 1500 (5:00.27) after placing third and first respectively, while freshman Makaisha Gonzalez (Lancaster, Mass.) registered post-season qualifying time of 16.91 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles after finishing sixth overall.

In the field, sophomore Brianna Young (Mansfield, Mass.) collected a pair of MASCAC qualifying tosses in the shot put (10.09m) and the hammer throw (28.34m), placing third and sixth respectively, while newcomer Allissa Carroll (Boxford, Mass.) added a post-season qualifying throw of 6.24m in the shot put.

Sophomore Kelly Mccusker-Brown (Watertown, Mass.) notched a pair of post-season qualifying marks in the discus (18.40m) and the javelin (25.45m), while Gonzalez added an 11th place effort in the high jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 1.25m.

In the long jump, Berardi placed seventh overall with a post-season qualifying jump of 4.63 meters, while junior Jennifer Desilvestre (Beverly, Mass.) rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the day, finishing seventh overall in the triple jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 8.73 meters..

The Fitchburg State women's outdoor track and field team returns to action next weekend as the Falcons hosts their annual Eric Loeschner Memorial Invite on Saturday, April 21st at Elliot Field, starting at 9:30 AM.
