McAndrew takes top honors in the 3000 meter steeple chase

Cambridge, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's outdoor track & field team recently competed at the 2024 Sean Collier Invitational, hosted by MIT at the Henry G. Steinbrenner Track today.

How It Happened

Junior Makany Camara (Lowell, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons, finishing fourth overall in the 100 meter hurdles with a DIII New England Qualifying time of 15.74 seconds as well as finishing second overall in the high jump with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 1.63 meters, while sophomore Ephemian Bailey (Maple Grove, Minn.) finished tenth in the discus with a DIII New England qualifying toss of 34.97 meters in addition to placing seventh in the shot put (10.37M) and 16th in the hammer throw (PR) (24.68M).

Freshman Shamya Boulware McKnight (Hartford, Conn.) (17th) and senior Jenna Aubuchon (Fitchburg, Mass.) (19th) turned in times of 14.62 and 15.44 seconds in the 100 meter, while in the 200 meter, junior Elizabeth Read (Fitchburg, Mass.) (30.40) and Boulware McKnight (31.00) placed 24th and 25th.

In the 800 meter, senior Abigail Murphy (Quincy, Mass.) (2:30.09), freshman Skye Goba (Norton, Mass.) (2:31.41) (PR) and senior Maria Burnett (Fitchburg, Mass.) (2:36.49) qualified for MASCAC's after finishing 16th.18th and 23rd, while in the 1500 meter, Murphy (PR) (12th) and senior Lilah McAndrew (Old Lyme, Conn.) (31st) qualified for the post-season with times of 5:00.65 and 5:35.69.

Junior Erin Donelan (Fitchburg, Mass.) notched a post-season qualifying time of 19.34 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles after placing 19th overall, while McAndrew took top honors in the 3000 meter steeple chase with a personal best and MASCAC qualifying time of 13:04.39.

In the 5000 meter, Goba notched a MASCAC qualifying time of 19:59.68 with a third place effort, while senior Courtney Brouillet (Fitchburg, Mass.) (1:21.03) (PR) and newcomer Trinity Hansen (Worcester, Mass.) (PR) (1:23.41) placed 11th and 13th in the 400 meter hurdles.

In the field, Boulware McKnight (PR) (3.98M) and Aubuchon (3.80M) placed 17th and 18th in the long jump, while Donelan finished 12th overall in the triple jump with a personal best and MASCAC qualifying mark of 9.01 meters.

In the shot put, junior Olivia Kephart (Rutland, Mass.) (PR) (8.76M), sophomore Antonia Sacramone (Hubbardston, Mass.) (8.26M) and freshman Cassandra Israelson (Saugus, Mass.) finished 15th, 17th and 19th with Kephart and Sacramone qualifying for MASCAC's, while Israelson placed 24th overall in the discus with a toss of 20.44 meters.

In the javelin, Read registered a personal best toss of 30.56 meter with a seventh place finish in the event to qualify for MASCAC's, while the 4x100 meter relay team of Aubuchon, Camara, Boulware McKnight and Read finished fourth overall with a time of 56.27 to round out the top Falcon efforts on the day.
