Falcons Place Fourth At 2023 MASCAC Championships

Bailey claims MASCAC Championship in Discus

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's outdoor track & field team placed fourth overall with a total of 81 points at the 2023 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Elliot Field today.

In a pre-meet ceremony, the Fitchburg State Women's Outdoor Track & Field Team honored its seven seniors: Jenna Aubuchon, Courtney Brouillet, Maria Burnett, Grace Casale, Sophie Geremia, Lilah McAndrew & Abigail Murphy for their contributions to the program.

How It Happened

Sophomore Ephemian Bailey (Maple Grove, Minn.) led the way for the Falcons, taking top honors in the discus with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 36.75 meters as well as finishing second overall in the shot put with a throw of 10.77 meters, while junior Makany Camara (Lowell, Mass.) placed second in the high jump with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 1.62 meters as well as finishing second in the 100 meter hurdles with a DIII New England qualifying time of 15.52 seconds.

Senior Lilah McAndrew (Old Lyme, Conn.) posted a second place time of 12:52.56, while classmate Sophie Geremia (Shrewsbury, Mass.) finished seventh overall in the 10,000 meter with a time of 46:44.73.

In the 1500 meter, senior Abigail Murphy (Quincy, Mass.) (3rd) and freshman Skye Goba (Norton, Mass.) (6th) turned in times of 5:02.33 and 5:10.34, while in the 800 meter, Murphy (2:30.49) and senior Maria Burnett (Fitchburg, Mass.) (2:39.34) placed fourth and tenth respectively.

Senior Courtney Brouillet (Fitchburg, Mass.) registered a fifth place time of 1:26.35 in the 400 meter hurdles, while in the 5000 meter Goba (19:48.57) and Burnett (22:06.28) finished fourth and 12th.

In the field, junior Elizabeth Read (Fitchburg, Mass.) placed second in the javelin with a toss of 31.38 meters, while junior Erin Donelan (Fitchburg, Mass.) posted a tenth place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 8.52 meters. The 4x400 meter relay team of Burnett, Donelan, Camara and Goba placed fifth overall with a time of 5:06.12.

In the shot put, junior Olivia Kephart (Rutland, Mass.) (5th) and sophomore Antonia Sacramone (Hubbardston, Mass.) (6th) posted tosses of 8.55 meters and 8.27 meters, while Kephart finished fifth in the hammer throw with a throw of 28.72 meters. The 4x100 meter relay team of Sacramone, Donelan, Camara and Read finished fourth overall with a time of 55.47 seconds, while the 4x800 meter relay team of Murphy, Burnett, McAndrew and Geremia rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the day, posting a fifth place time of 11:48.13.
