Falcons Shine At DIII New England Championships

Camara earned All-DIII NE Honors with sixth place finish in High Jump

Springfield, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's outdoor track & field team placed 31st with a total of 2.5 points at the 2023 DIII New England Championships at the Blake Track, hosted by Springfield College this weekend.

How It Happened

Junior Makany Camara (Lowell, Mass.) paved the way for the Falcons, finishing 14th in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.85 seconds, while adding a sixth place mark of 1.59 meters in the high jump. Sophomore Ephemian Bailey (Maple Grove, Minn.) was also solid for the Green and Gold, finishing ninth in the discus with a throw of 37.83 meters in addition to finishing 20th in the shot put with a toss of 11.15 meters.

The 4x100 meter relay team of senior Jenna Aubuchon (Fitchburg, Mass.), Camara, newcomer Shamya Boulware McKnight (Hartford, Conn.) and junior Elizbeth Read (Fitchburg, Mass.) turned in a 23rd place time of 55.53 seconds, while the 4x800 meter relay team of seniors Maria Burnett (Fitchburg, Mass.), Lilah McAndrew (Old Lyme, Conn.) and Abigail Murphy (Quincy, Mass.) and freshman Skye Goba (Norton, Mass.) finished ninth with a time of 10:18.34 to round out the top Falcon efforts over the weekend.
