Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the visiting Bears of Bridgewater State in Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action on Tuesday night at the Recreation Center.

How It Happened

Lauren Riccardi (Tewksbury, Mass) posted a team-high 5 kills to pace the Falcons, but the Bears' well-balanced attack downed Fitchburg State University in three close sets.

Bridgewater State opened with a 25-14 first set victory, before the Falcons edged closer in the second. The Falcons knotted the score at 11 and trailed 20-19 after a block from Annie Woolley (Malden, Mass.) and Nicole Sylvester (Everett, Mass.), but consecutive errors from FSU pushed the Bears over the top.

Tied 7-all in the third set, the Bears railed off nine straight points with Shannon Grindle (Halifax., Mass.)  serving en-route to the 25-17 final.

Inside the Numbers

For the Green and Gold senior Serene Pease (Ashland, Mass.) generated 9 digs, while Kristina Osborne (Ashby, Mass.) contributed 8 digs to go along with 3 services aces and 2 kills.

Kayla Baril (Seekonk, Mass.) had a match-high 12 kills with 9 digs, 3 assists and 4 aces to pace the Bears.

BSU junior Cassidy Tyros (Chelmsford, Mass.) had nine digs on the night, leaving her 3 short for 1,000 in her career.

This is the 19th meeting between two schools with Falcons 3-16 when taking on the Bears.

First time two squads have meet on the volleyball court since October 19, 2002 in which the Falcons dropped a 3-0 decision to the Bears.

Last time Falcons defeated the Bears was on October 14, 1992 at the old Parkinson Gymnasium.

The Falcons return to action on Thursday night when they travel to Dean College for a 7:00pm match. Bridgewater hosts UMass Dartmouth at 6:00pm on the same evening.
