Falcons Compete In Tri-Match With Worcester State And Nichols

Pease combines for 33 digs, one kill and four service aces for Falcons 

Worcester, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's volleyball team concluded its 2017 campaign this evening, competing in a tri-match at Worcester State University. The Falcons dropped a 3-0 decision to the Lancers of Worcester State University in the opener before suffering a tough 3-1 setback to the Bison of Nichols College in the second match of the evening.

How It Happened

In the opener, Fitchburg State was paced by senior libero Serene Pease (Ashland, Mass.), who tallied a team-best 10 digs and one service ace, while junior Kristina Osborne (Ashby, Mass.) added two kills, one service ace and four digs. Junior Jaquelyn Manyak (Bolton, Mass.) was also solid for the Falcons, registering three assists and a pair of digs.

In game two against Nichols, Pease continued her strong outing, finishing with a match-best 23 digs, one kill and three service aces, while newcomer Jessica Peirce (Brentwood, N.H.) chipped in with nine digs and two service aces. Freshman Amy Coelho (Bellingham, Mass.) aided the Falcons offense as well, collecting 11 assists, four digs and one service aces for the Green and Gold.

Inside the Numbers

The opening contest marked the 15th meeting between Fitchburg State and Worcester on the volleyball court with the Falcons 11-4-0 when taking on the Lancers.

First matchup between Fitchburg State and Worcester State in women's volleyball since October 26, 2002.

Worcester State has won the last three contests against Fitchburg State.

This evening's contest marked the first ever meeting between Nichols College and Fitchburg State on the volleyball court.
